Valentine’s Day Date Night Treats (Easy, Romantic, and Healthy)

Looking for a great Valentine’s night in? Then, you have come to the right place! These treats are great healthy options and can fit within a budget. I know I would feel pretty special if someone made these for me! 🙂

For date nights, Brendon and I don’t go out that much. We love to save money, and we have lots of fun just spending time together at home. So, making small efforts to make special treats to have a romantic evening go a long way with us. Plus, these are gestures you can do more frequently since they don’t cost as much money.

So, let’s talk treats. For Valentine’s Day, we are going to make chocolate dipped bacon hearts, chocolate covered strawberries, and share some drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic options below).

Sea Salt Chocolate Dipped Bacon Hearts

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Cut bacon pieces in half.
  2. Curl bacon halves in the sides of a heart and stick together. I found that if you twist the whole half of bacon it stays on the pan and in a heart shape better.
  3. Bake for 25 minutes at 350 F.
  4. Let cool.
  5. Boil water in a saucepan, and then place a glass bowl over it. This is a double boiler.
  6. Pour your chocolate into the bowl.
  7. Melt chocolate in the double boiler, and stir until smooth.
  8. Drizzle chocolate over bacon or dip bacon into the chocolate.
  9. Set the bacon on a parchment lined baking sheet, and sprinkle with sea salt.
  10. Set in the refrigerator to harden.

Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Wipe down strawberries with a wet towel. I would not recommend washing them in water as they will get mushy. This is a good reason to buy organic strawberries.
  2. Melt chocolate over a double boiler, and stir until smooth.
  3. Hold the stem of the strawberry, and dip it into the chocolate to cover most of berry.
  4. Place on a parchment lined baking sheet, and place the pan in the refrigerator so the chocolate can harden.
  5. For extra credit, put a few large spoonfuls of the melted chocolate in a sandwich bag, snip one of the bottom ends, and pipe something onto the plate.

Kombucha (non-alcoholic beverage option)

I love Kombucha because it is a treat I can feel good about having more often when I want a special drink. It has probiotic benefits and comes in very yummy fruity flavors. These can be found at health stores like Whole Foods and Fresh Thyme, but regular grocery stores like Meijer and Kroger are carrying them now too. I definitely recommend serving it in a wine glass for the full experience of a special drink.
